Cheverly Soccer Club Donates Equipment in Guatemala
Cheverly Soccer Club's Joel Lang recently made his fifth trip to Guatemala. He travelled with a team of Rotarians (five men, five women) mainly from Fargo, North Dakota, but also from Canada and California. The team went to help build a school on the southern (Pacific) coast near Monterrico in mid-February 2011. The old school was totally destroyed and washed out to sea a few years ago by a hurricane.
Joel brought some donated soccer balls and shirts from the Cheverly Soccer Club and distributed them to many villages in the south and the northeast areas of the country.

These pictures show a 'pick-up' soccer game on the beach near Monterrico and the distribution of shirts at a school we built a few years ago in El Nacimiento. Soccer is the biggest sport in Guatemala and any soccer ball is a cherished item, much less a new one. The shirts were so popular that some of the kids wore them to school.
This small contribution from our Cheverly Soccer Club made a big difference in the lives of many children throughout the country. Thank you all.

Team Season Wrap-Ups
(All teams based on age as of August 1, 2009. That is, a child cannot play on the U12 team if they turn 12 before August 1, 2009.)
U18 Boys (with Coach Ray Sexton, contact 301-341-1960)

The U-18 Boys (aka "Last Dance") finished their season 4-2. We led the league in scoring and point differential, and were second in least points allowed. Great season!
U14 Girls (with Coach Mike Callahan, contact 301-773-319)
U12 Boys (with Coach Dan Shenk-Evans, contact 301-772-7304)

The CSC U12 Midnight Lightning team concluded its successful inaugural fall season by finishing tied for third in their 11-team, BBSL U12 B division. Their ending record was 3-2-3, which was a great accomplishment considering that 3/4 of the players were playing up an age division. This was a great season that saw the kids develop as soccer players an be exposed to a higher level of soccer. The league was wonderfully balanced, and every game was competitive and hard fought.
U10 Boys (with Coach Jim Allegro, contact 301-322-4952)
U8-9 Girls & Boys (with coaches Chris Dwyer, contact 301-602-4315, and Marc Molino)

The U8-9 team finished fourth of seven in the league. The top two teams were NCSL, and we were (admittedly) crushed in those games. Otherwise, we were 3-3, including two one-goal losses with key players absent! All in all, it was a very proud season for us!
